Recently, the Human Genetics Resource Preservation Center of Hubei Province (hereinafter referred as the "Biological Repositories") was set up at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. The establishment of the center will be a common malignancy and characteristic disease in China. Scientific research, clinical diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases provide a large number of high-quality human samples, and become a strong support for basic medical research, clinical research, accurate medicine and transformational medicine research.
With a total storage capacity of 3 million samples, the Biological Repositories is the only one in Central China that has been approved by the China Human Genetic Resources Management Office of the State Ministry of Science and Technology as a million-grade automated sample bank. Professor Xinghuan Wang, President of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, served as Director of the center.
The center is composed of "biological specimen bank-Wetbank", "data repositories bank-Drybank" and "primary cell bank-Livebank". "Wetbank" mainly stores human tissue, blood or other body fluids, as well as processed, purified DNA/RNA, protein and other samples. Drybank mainly stores clinical information and long-term follow-up data corresponding to Wetbank samples. The "live library" processes the tissue samples of the patients and stores the specific tumor tissues by means of cell conditional reprogramming, organ culture, and tumor transplantation from patients.
The center stores cells from Chinese population, with individual differences, and provides targeted, accurate, high-quality human samples for scientific research, clinical diagnosis and treatment for Chinese people. Based on the approval of the China Human Genetic Resources Management Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the central samples will enter the field of scientific research in an open and shared mode.
Yu Xiao, the executive director of the center, believes that the establishment of the Human Genetic Resource Preservation Center of Hubei Province is expected to improve the status of small sample storage in our clinical research samples, unstandardized sample collection, and the poor sample quality. The center will provides important samples for basic medical research, precision medicine, transformation medicine and large health data in China. Information resources can effectively enhance the international competitiveness of scientific research related to major diseases, promote the overall medical level of the whole country, reduce the huge economic burden on the prevention and control of disease in China, provide important strategic resources for the development of new drugs and the interconnected platform of efficient sharing services, accelerate the development of pharmaceutical industry, and benefit the research of medical research in China.
